Trailblazers Impact Story
For 125 years, Trail Blazers’ time-tested Outdoor Education and Adventure Programs have helped thousands of young people build essential personal values for life while providing an unforgettable summer in the outdoors. Children like Angelica and Gabriel Roman, first time campers who received a special Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies (FPWA) scholarship that was supplemented by the Trail Blazers Scholarship Fund. The Romans spent two weeks at Trail Blazer Camps amidst the trees, fresh air and positive adult role models. When they returned home to their mother, we received this message from her:
“I just wanted to send you a big thank you!
My children came home so different, not just physically but also intellectually and emotionally. Angelica and Gabriel both found muscles they did not know they had. Angelica found an inner strength about her, she is speaking up and making sure she is being heard. Never ever did this happen before! Gabriel is much more in tune with others around him, controls his impulses and is not afraid of trying new foods.
I am so proud of my children and the growth they are showing and I am sure they will continue to develop as they begin to process their adventure.
Thank you very much!
Grace Roman”
Trail Blazers provides many opportunities to some of our most vulnerable children by offering a much needed respite from the often unstructured and unsafe environment of their neighborhoods, streets and homes. This summer we have offered that opportunity to over 400 kids for our 125th consecutive summer.
