The Net Gain program currently serves sixteen New York City public high schools, providing free court time for teams to play their home, PSAL, league games. In addition, the athletes and coaches at these schools participate in service projects that help improve their communities.

Net Gain Season

Participation

• 16 schools - 15 traditional schools, 1 alternative school (Liberty High School).
• 16 Boys teams (approx 225 student-athletes)
• 13 Girls teams (approx 150 student-athletes)

Court Time

• Currently, Net Gain uses Basketball City, Chelsea Piers, and the J. Kennedy Center for games
• Games are played from 4-6 PM weekdays, 6-8 PM on Fridays, and all day Saturday
• Approximately 60% of games and practices take place at Basketball City
• Over 500 hours of court time will be used for games
• Over 50 hours of court time will be used for practice

Community Service

• Athletes and coaches will participate in over a dozen community service projects
• Athletes and coaches will volunteer over 1,000 hours of community service
  Community Service Projects for 2005 - 2006 so far have included:
1. Two schools have organized Blood Drives at their schools
2. Three schools volunteered at the Special Olympics, helping set up and run a Floor Hockey event at the Jacob Javits Center
3. Six schools participated in It's My Park Day, sponsored by the New York City Department of Parks - athletes and coaches spent the day cleaning, gardening, planting and refurbishing Jackie Robinson Park in Harlem and several parks downtown
4. Two schools served food to the homeless at the Holy Apostle's Soup Kitchen

Results

• Over 2,000 high school students have had the opportunity to play varsity sports since Net Gain began
• Urban Dove survey shows that Net Gain athletes graduate high school at an over 90% rate as compared to 60% citywide
• Athletes and coaches have donated over 5,000 hours of community service, improving dozens of communities and helping hundreds of thousands of New York City residents
