Alan Holtz has been a Managing Director in AlixPartners’ Turnaround & Restructuring practice since joining the firm in 2006. He co-leads the practice’s Transformation and Restructuring Advisory group from the New York office, where is he also Local Market Leader. Alan focuses on midsize company advisory roles and large unsecured creditors’ committee (UCC) engagements across a wide variety of industries. His restructuring experience spans over 28 years, advising clients on all aspects of the financial restructuring process in the forms of business planning and analysis, cash management, operational improvement, contingency planning, forensic investigation, asset sales, valuation and structuring, and negotiation of plans of reorganization. Prior to joining AlixPartners, Alan was with a Big Four accounting and consulting firm and its restructuring division successor, where he led the firm’s lender advisory practice.
Alan has been involved in dozens of major restructurings and out-of-court workouts. His extensive client roster while at AlixPartners includes Dendreon Corp., the official UCCs of Residential Capital, Energy Futures Holdings and of (Chicago) Tribune Company; Nebraska Book Company; U.S. Concrete and White Birch Paper, in a cross-border Canadian restructuring. Previously, he led a team at Remy International, a tier 1 automotive supplier that restructured through a landmark, 59-day prepackaged Chapter 11. His prior experience includes Barney’s, Dana, Eastern Air Lines, Enron, KCS Energy, Payless Cashways, Pillowtex, Popeyes, and USG. Alan has been included on Turnarounds & Workouts’ People to Watch list and was named Turnaround Consultant of the Year by M&A Advisor.
Alan has a bachelor’s degree in economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is past chairman and past president of the Association of Insolvency & Restructuring Advisors, was a licensed certified public accountant for 28 years, and is a Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor. Alan is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Turnaround Management Association, and the American Institute of CPAs. The Turnaround Management Association recognized Alan and the AlixPartners team with its Transaction of the Year award for the successful Remy restructuring and with its Large Turnaround of the Year award for the Nebraska Book engagement. Alan sits on the board of Newark Public Radio WBGO and is a frequent speaker and author on the subjection of corporate restructuring.
