Kickball with Scotiabank and South Bronx United

Updated: Jul 31, 2018

On Tuesday, July 24, the Young Professionals Board of Scotiabank welcomed student-athletes from Youth INC Partner South Bronx United to their office where they introduced the youth to their work and challenged them to a friendly game of kickball.

The Scotiabank Young Professionals created the event as a team builder for their staff and to raise funds for SBU. By the time of the event, they surpassed their goal of raising $2,500 for new team jerseys and other supplies for the upcoming school year, and they are keeping the effort live in the hopes to raise more.

The youth asked poignant questions about working in the financial sector and the preparation it takes to get there, and the Scotiabank Young Professionals were astounded by the students’ athleticism, sportsmanship, and humor. Many laughs were had on the kickball field, and many connections were forged.

South Bronx United enriches the lives of more than 1,100 boys and girls each through programs and services on the soccer field, in the classroom, and beyond. The SBU Academy program reaches 170 immigrant and first-generation youth by leveraging the passion that they have for soccer to provide a pathway from middle school to high school to college to careers. South Bronx United created the #Powerof11 campaign in the lead-up to the recent World Cup to highlight the diverse backgrounds of their team members and to share the impact that SBU has made in their lives.

Special thanks to Scotiabank Young Professionals and Youth INC Board Member Amy Miller, Managing Director and the Global Head of Loan Syndications at Scotiabank, for supporting the project.
