Youth INC honors DAVID MUSSAFER with the John C. Whitehead Leadership Award

David Mussafer is Chairman and Managing Partner of Advent International, one of the world’s leading global private equity firms. With more than $75 billion in assets under management,Advent invests in companies across a variety of industries in North America, Europe,Latin America and Asia via 16 offices around the world.

With over 30 years of investment experience at Advent, David has led more than 35 investments across a range of industries, including in the financial services, healthcare, and consumer sectors and currently serves on the boards of lululemon (lead director), Olaplex and Thrasio. David served on the Board of City Year Boston from 2004 to 2012 and was the Founding Chair of the City Year Boston Investment Breakfast.He supports the City Year AmeriCorps team service at the Boston Green Academy among a range of other philanthropic organizations. Additionally, during the Covid-19 pandemic, David helped lead Advent’s efforts to establish The Advent Global Relief Fund (AGRF). This AGRF was originally created to help meet the immediate needs of those most affected by the coronavirus pandemic in the regions around the world where Advent operates. The fund comprised an initial $25 million cornerstone commitment from Advent and its partners and is continually growing thanks to the generosity of the firm’s employees and the wider Advent community. The AGRF is focused on healthcare and front-line workers, vulnerable communities and the employees of Advent’s portfolio companies.  

David received his BS in Management from Tulane University and earned his MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.He also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees at Tulane University and is a Member of The Business Roundtable. David and his wife, Marion, live in Boston and have four children –Michael, Sophie, Olivia and Bridget.
