State of Youth Development 2018 in NYC Highlights

May 10, 2018

On April 18, 2018, Youth INC co-hosted the second annual State of Youth Development symposium: Advancing Impact, Justice and Hope, a convening on current policies, trends, challenges, and opportunities impacting the field of Youth Development in NYC.

This convening produced, and will continue to encourage, powerful, collaborative conversations. With our partners - Algorhythm, CUNY School of Professional Studies, and the Youth Development Institute - a collective of perspectives has emerged focused on breaking unsuccessful patterns, encouraging innovative approaches, and harnessing our collective ambition to enable New York City’s youth to thrive.

We were delighted to have acclaimed author, professor and activist, Shawn Ginwright, Ph.D., as our keynote speaker.

His keynote kicked off a day-long convening that acknowledged successful practitioners – an inaugural class of “Hi Impact Awardees” – and youth participants who identified what they need from youth workers. The ensuing interactive discussions focused on problem solving with best practice methodologies being shared among the 250+ attendees.
